A SUPERNATURAL SUCCESS STORY

GRAND GHOST TOURS CELEBRATES PHENOMENA-L FIRST ANNIVERSARY

Hallowe’en 2007, marked the first anniversary of Grand Ghost Tours with a very trip to Lancaster Castle and Pendle Hill! Set up by Stephen Mercer, marketing manager at the Grand Theatre, the tours allow the public to be taken on a dark journey through the theatre, whilst hearing the tales of the ghostly goings-on at the Victorian theatre… all with the lights off!

Those who attend get the opportunity to walk through the darkened auditorium, visit backstage and explore above and below the main stage. “Many people don’t get to see those areas in daylight, never mind in the wee small hours,” adds Stephen.

It’s not just local people who come to experience paranormal phenomena at the theatre. Stephen says, “The tours have attracted attention throughout the whole of the UK and indeed from Ireland! People come from all over. In fact, I’ve had an enquiry recently for a 21st birthday party for a gentleman from Dublin! It is wonderful that so many want come and see around the theatre.”

“Many of those who have been on the tours have experienced sightings, heard strange noises or felt things. On a few occasions, there have even been screams and shrieks from participants.

Grand Ghost Tours became an overnight success with hundreds waiting patiently for places on the next available tour. Stephen explains, “It has taken almost a year just to let those who missed getting places on the very first tour at Hallowe’en last year, to experience a ghost tour at the Grand! At the same time, there have been more and more enquiries. It’s not unusual for a tour to be announced one day and sold out the next!”

Many of those who attended the evening tours have asked if they could return to investigate what they have heard, felt or seen. Occasionally Grand Ghost Tours offer the opportunity to do just that with Overnight Vigils. Using paranormal investigative equipment supplied by Grand Ghost Tours’ official sponsor Toms Gadgets, the intrepid ghost hunters get the opportunity to work with dowsing rods and pendulums, specialist EMF meters, motion detectors and thermometers.

Grand Ghost Tours also visits other locations in the local area. To date, the tours have visited Blackpool Zoo and Dinosaur Safari, Blackpool Opera House and Winter Gardens complex. Future locations will include the North Pier Theatre, Louis Tussauds Waxworks and look out for some other haunted places being announced early next year.

Special trips are also being arranged outside of the local area, such as the Hallowe'en Anniversary Tour to Lancaster Castle and Pendle Hill and on Thursday 13th December a trip to the “dead centre of England”, Derby Gaol, owned by paranormal historian, writer and presenter Richard Felix of Most Haunted fame . “Tickets sold out for the anniversary tour to Pendle within days; and there are just a few places left for the Derby Gaol visit,” says Stephen.

So what else can we expect from Grand Ghost Tours?

“Well, that’s a good question!” Stephen adds, “Grand Ghost Tours has evolved so much; not only organising tours locally and trips further a field, but it has also been involved in presenting Clairvoyant Evenings at the Grand Theatre’s Lawrence House Studio and will be presenting other very special evenings and events in the future. That’s why I have now formed Supernatural Events, which encompasses all of the tours, trips and paranormal events that I carry out.

“Derek Acorah, who will be visiting the Grand Theatre on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th November with An Evening with Derek Acorah, has very kindly agreed to a very special event on the Sunday afternoon from 4pm to 5pm. In An Audience with Derek Acorah the audience will find out more about his life and work with Spirit and much more! But most importantly, the audience will get the opportunity to ask questions of Derek. It will be a very special event; a one-of-a-kind.

“Former Most Haunted team member and paranormal historian Richard Felix will be coming to the theatre on Sunday 2nd March 2008 with his What is a Ghost? evening, when he will explode the myths and give an intriguing explanation into the world of ghosts.

“Spiritual Medium and Psychic Helen Chadwick has demonstrated at the Grand on two occasions, and will be returning in the New Year.

“As well as the trips and special events, a further series of Grand Ghost Tours and Overnight Vigils will be announced in early November.”
